Ada M. Miranda, Vice Chair
Ada M. Miranda was born and raised in Puerto Rico. She holds a B.S. in Psychology, graduating Magna Cum Laude from the University of Puerto Rico. She moved to New York City in 1974 to pursue a career in dance and a Master of Arts degree in Education, graduating with high honors from Bank Street College of Education in New York.
Ms. Miranda has worked in the fields of education and human resources for the past twenty-three years. She was an elementary and special education teacher in New York and Boston. Since 1996, she has worked for the Capitol Region Education Council. At present she holds the position of Assistant Director of Human Resources.
In 2006, Ms. Miranda was the recipient of the María C. Sanchez Educator Service Award for her service to the students of Hartford as a member of the Hartford Board of Education.
Ms. Miranda has lived in Hartford since 1996, is married and is the mother of an eleven-year-old daughter.

Elizabeth Brad Noel, Second Vice Chair
Ms. Noel received her B.A. from Oberlin College in History and Education, M.A. in Guidance and Counseling from Cornell University, and 6th Year degree in Administration from the University of Hartford. She retired as the Weaver and Fox guidance chairperson after 25 years. Ms. Noel served as an elected member of Hartford Board of Education from 1993 to 1997. She has been a Blue Hills neighborhood resident, with her husband Don, a retired journalist, since 1966. Their children graduated from Hartford schools.

Andrea Comer
Andrea Comer is currently the chief of staff for the senior vice president of philanthropic services at The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. An award-winning journalist for nearly a decade, she has covered many of Hartford’s societal issues that impact families and is a frequent contributor to the Courant’s opinion pages. A Hartford resident, Andrea was the first female President of the Greater Hartford African American Alliance, a local advocacy group. She currently serves as an elected member of the Hartford Board of Education, and chairs its safety and order task force; chairs the Press and Publicity Committee for the State Conference NAACP; and is on the board of the Black Women’s Health Council and Hartford Area Habitat for Humanity. She considers her proudest accomplishment to be her daughter, Ashlye, currently a freshman at the University of New Haven.

| Israel Flores
Israel Flores was sworn in on June 7 as the newest member of the Hartford Board of Education. He was appointed by Mayor Eddie Perez to fill a vacancy created by the resignation of I. Michael Borrero. His term expires in November, when a full nine-member Board will take office, four elected at large and five appointed by the Mayor. Mr. Flores is a graduate of Hartford Public High School and is a Jacob and Lewis Fox Scholar. He graduated from Yale University in 1996 with a bachelor’s degree in Economics and Psychology. He received an MBA in Finance from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 2002. He is currently employed by the UnitedHealth Group in Hartford and resides in Hartford.
