It's critically important that parents and guardians be involved in their child's educational experience.
The first step in this process is playing an active role in school selection, alongside your child. Work together to review school program options and then choose a school that best meets the individual needs of the student. Be sure to closely review courses of study and grade levels available, as well as school requirements. At that point, visit the schools that you are most interested in. This will give you best glimpse inside a school while helping you to become more informed and an involved participant in your child's school life.
Once you have selected a school, applied and been accepted, stay involved. Volunteer to help with school activities and events, build good relationships with your child's teachers and stay informed on how well your child is doing throughout the year.

What is a Community School?
A community school is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources. Its integrated focus on academics, services, supports and opportunities leads to improved student learning, stronger families, and healthier communities. (Coalition for Community Schools – widely used definition of community schools) Hartford Community Schools are a strategy for aligning resources to support student achievement.
One of the most valuable ways for you to be involved is to join the PTO. The Parent-Teacher Organization plays a vital role in school and enrichments programs and helps keep the overall educational experience fun and worthwhile for students.
