Located in the west central section of Hartford, Parkville Community School services grades PK-6. Parkville Community School is home to 515 students from diverse backgrounds, with approximately countries represented. Parkville School utilizes a large source of data and student work samples to determine individual, classroom and school needs. A myriad of strategies, materials and professional development workshops are utilized to address the needs of our students. Children are encouraged to become independent learners and critical thinkers. Differentiated instruction, multiple intelligence theory and an interdisciplinary approach to teaching nurture these goals.

Parkville Community School provides a learning environment wherein all students learn to the maximum of their potential and are prepared for middle school. Test Scores:

Parkville School CMT scores continue to be on the rise, and have improved significantly in the areas of reading, writing and math.  Additionally, on the 2009 CMT’s, 77.9% of grade three students were at/above proficient in Math, achieving the best in the district.  In writing, 92.3% of grade 5 students scored at/above proficient in writing, performing as the highest achieving  in the district and being the first school in Hartford to ever achieve over the 90th percentile in any subject on the state assessment.

 Percent At or Above Goal:

    Parkville School is closing the achievement gap and has outperformed the district average in READING  in all grades on the 2009 CMT’s. From 2008 to 2009, the percentage of students at or above proficient in Math increased in grades 3, 4, 5, and 6.

    · 58% of Grade 3 students performed at/above proficiency. 

An increase of 10.2% from the previous year. It was the second highest average in the district for this grade level in reading.

    · 56.6% of Grade 4 students performed at/above proficiency. 

An increase of .4% from the previous year.  It was the second highest average in the district for this grade level in reading.

    · 70.7% of Grade 5 students performed at/above proficiency.  This is an increase of 15.5% from the previous year.  Parkville had the highest average in the district for this grade level in reading.

    · 60% of Grade 6 students performed at/above proficiency.  This is an increase of 5.5% from the previous year. 

     Parkville School is closing the achievement gap and has outperformed the district average in MATH  in all grades on the 2009 CMT’s. From 2008 to 2009, the percentage of students at or above proficient in Math increased in grades 3,4, 5, and 6.

    · 77.9% of Grade 3 students performed at/above proficiency.  This is an increase of 22% from the previous year. Parkville had the highest average in the district for this grade level in Math.

    · 75% of Grade 4 students performed at/above proficiency.  This is an increase of 9.3% from the previous year.  It was the third highest average in the district for this grade level in Math.

    · 73.7% of Grade 5 students performed at/above proficiency.  This is an increase of 10.8% from the previous year.  Parkville had the fourth highest average in the district for this grade level in Math.

    · 69.4% of Grade 6 students performed at/above proficiency.  This is an increase of 5.6% from the previous year. 

    Parkville School is closing the achievement gap and has outperformed the district average in WRITING in all grades on the 2009 CMT’s. From 2008 to 2009, the percentage of students at or above proficient in Math increased in grades 3,4, 5, and 6.

    · 73.5% of Grade 3 students performed at/above proficiency.  This is an increase of 9.2% from the previous year. It was the fourth highest average in the district for this grade level in writing.

    · In writing, 92.3% of grade 5 students scored at/above proficient in writing, this is an increase of 14.7% from the previous year.  Parkville School was the highest achieving on the district fifth grade writing target and became the first school in Hartford to ever achieve over the 90th percentile in any subject on the state assessment.

Parkville School outperformed the district average in Science on the grade 5 2009 CMT’s Science assessment.

   •  67.7% of Grade 5 students performed at/above proficiency.  This is an increase of 11.6% from previous year. It was the fourth highest average in the district for this grade level in science.
