Quirk Middle School

Child Drawing

Quirk Middle School is currently a redesign school that is focusing on improving the CMT scores for level 1 and 2 students. We have implemented the Read 180 and the Readers/Writers curriculum for literacy and the New CREC Mathematics. In addition, we have implemented interventions programs for both reading and mathematics. Our after school programs offer a variety of academics and recreational activities that support the day programs at our school. We have recently entered into a partnership with the Learn It Program that will offer supplemental services to our level 1 and level 2 students.

Academic/School Programs

Our school community is made up of clusters and houses providing the opportunity to function as schools within a school. Our school offers services to bilingual students, special needs students with a continuum of services as well as a College Prep Program that offers students to participate in a World Language Program (Spanish). Our College Prep Program also offers Algebra to our grade eight students. We are currently using block scheduling in order to provide quality instruction.

The Quirk Middle School Concert Choir performed at the Wadsworth Atheneum Festival of Trees & Traditions on Thursday, December 11, 2008. The Quirk Middle School Concert Choir performed under the direction of Mrs. Andrea Jones. The choir was accompanied by Mr. Jonathan Ball on Tenor Saxophone. The Quirk Concert Choir has performed annually at the Festival of Trees Celebration for more than 30 years.
