West Middle Elementary School is a multicultural environment that dynamically educates children by fostering high expectation through a joint collaboration of school, home and a supportive community.

 

Located in Asylum Hill, grades include Pre-K-6, Bilingual, Special Education, and Language Transition Support Service classes. Nearly 800 students from 18 countries speaking 14 languages are housed in a campus of three buildings bordered by Asylum Avenue, Sigourney Street and Niles Street.

School-day activities include Suzuki Violin for Pre-K to first grade, instrumental music for fourth, fifth and sixth grade, Reading Buddies- Grade 3, Breaking the Cycle- Grade 5, DARE- Grade 6, Compass Learning- Grades 2-6, Literacy Tutoring- Grades K-3, Italian Instruction Pre-K, Albanian Resource, Sunshine Club, Lutz Museum Class and Museum Visits, Morton Salt Mystic Aquarium Coastal Visits, Class Meeting, Hartford Symphony, Connecticut Opera, Music Speaks to Me and Chamber Music Plus.


After school activities include Boys and Girls Club which has affiliation with Dance Connecticut, Mark Twain Public Library, Kingswood Oxford Tutoring, and other local cultural and enrichment resources, ConnectiKids, League Basketball, Drill Team, Summer School, Power Hour, Girl’s Inc., Artists Collective, and Light and Peace at Trinity Episcopal Church.
