Magnet Theme:
The Capital Preparatory Magnet School is a year-round college preparatory school. Students must participate in a rigorous trimester calendar enhanced by a mandatory six-week summer academy. Upon graduation, students could receive both a high school diploma and up to 60 college credits. The Capital Preparatory Magnet School evolved from the Connecticut Collegiate Awareness and Preparation Program (ConnCAP) at Capital Community College. For seven years, 100% of ConnCAP participants have gone to four-year colleges. Interested families are strongly encouraged to schedule a visit to Capital Prep to meet students, staff, and faculty.
Academic/School Programs:
- The School is located within Capital Community College with administrative offices on the 3rd floor.
- Students and faculty will have access to the educational resources of Capital Community College.
- Students are required to wear uniforms daily.
- Students attend a six-week summer academy each year until graduation.
- High school students will be able to enroll in college courses and receive both high school and college credit.
- At its core the school has a liberal arts curriculum.
- The curriculum has a social justice focus, which refers to the academic and experiential exploration of equality, democracy, economic opportunity, intellectual freedom, environmental protection and human rights.
