Magnet Theme:
The Greater Hartford Classical Magnet School provides highly motivated students the opportunity to engage in a rigorous liberal arts curriculum firmly rooted in the classics. The Classical faculty prepares students for success in the most competitive colleges and universities in the nation upon completion of their course of Classical study. All students carry a full course load of Latin, English, History, Math and Science for each of their seven years in the school. Teachers utilize the Paideia method of instruction, which places the responsibility for learning on the students.

Academic/School Programs:
Students read original texts in classic literature and world philosophy, giving them the cultural literacy necessary for success in college. In addition, Classical students participate in a required enrichment program from 2:30 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. Monday through Thursday, to provide them with opportunities to explore drama, the arts, music and sports. Professional local artists and community arts organizations, such as the Hartford Stage Company and the Hartford Conservatory, provide authentic programming within the Classical program. Students also have the opportunity to develop their athletic talents through competition in CIAC-approved interscholastic sports. Classical Magnet’s $36 million facility in the beautiful West End/Asylum Hill neighborhood of Hartford is an optimal location, enhanced by active partnerships with St. Francis Hospital and the Connecticut Historical Society.
