Magnet Theme:

The Sport and Medical Sciences Academy (SMSA) is a college preparatory middle and high school with a focus on medical and sport sciences. Students receive a rigorous language arts, mathematics, and science foundation that is applied in core curriculum and various elective. We offer several college credit programs through the University of Connecticut – Early College Experience Model and Capital Community College. SMSA high school students have the opportunity to earn up to 30 free college credits. In addition to a strong academic program, students experience a student/staff mentoring program (10:1), middle and high school athletics (CIAC), clubs, and on SAT Preparatory Academy. SMSA believes in a strong character approach to learning by instilling the Four Core Beliefs: Discipline, Respect, Dedication, Responsibility into each student’s educational experience.

Academic/School Programs:

  • A rigorous academic program
  • Personalized academic counseling and mentoring (1 adult to 10-12 students)
  • 85-minute block scheduling (4 blocks a day)
  • Opportunities to earn up to 32 college credits
  • Business, university and medical partnerships
  • A new state-of-the-art $71 million school building is scheduled to open in Fall 2008
