9/11 Anniversary Message from Superintendent Torres-Rodriguez

Dear Colleagues, Partners, and Friends,

Saturday marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon, and the crash of Flight 93 in Pennsylvania. Hartford Public Schools stands in support of our families, teachers, administrators, and partners who continue to grieve the loss of loved ones or friends. Though two decades have passed, the memories and trauma may still be deeply felt. The recent tragic events in Afghanistan may also serve as painful reminders.

I recognize that this anniversary may be difficult and ask that you please take care of yourselves and one another with compassion, empathy, and support. While our students may be too young to have personal memories of 9/11, they may have questions. They will look to us, as caring and trusted adults, for understanding and reassurance. I ask that as teachers, administrators, and staff, we focus on supporting our students and promoting the values of peace, diversity, and inclusion throughout our district. Let’s also remember and honor the service and sacrifice of our first responders and members of our Armed Forces.

Sincerely,

Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez
Superintendent
Hartford Public Schools
