Academy of Engineering and Green Technology Holds YES Academy (Youth Employment Skills) Program over Spring Break
Tony Terzi from Fox CT was at the Academy of Engineering and Green Technology on April 1st and the school was on the Fox Evening News.
During vacation week we have about 40 students who are coming Monday 3/31 through Thursday 4/3 from 9:00am – 12:00pm (8:30 breakfast and 12:00pm lunch) to attend the Academy of Engineering and Green Technology’s YES Academy (Youth Employment Skills).
The balloon rocket and paper tower activities were taught by Engineers from UTC who not only used the activity to build team work and collaboration skills, but spoke extensively about how structures are designed and constructed included their roles in the process
Other pictures are from our Taking Initiative, Interview Skills and Mock Interviews, and Financial Management workshops.
This program has over 30 corporate volunteers from our Advisory Board companies and their network who come to the school to teach 24 different workshops to our students to prepare them for internships and other work-based learning opportunities to help build and enhance the skills they need to be college and career ready.
The workshops include team building and collaboration in the work place, time management, resume writing, interview skills and mock interviews, financial management, job applications, business etiquette and social communication, dress for success, taking initiative, and many more. All of this workshops were taught by professionals from our business partners from companies like UTC, CBIA, Cigna, Travelers, Bank of America, Kelly Engineering, NU, Milione and MacBroom and many more.
The students are volunteering their time and giving up their vacation to attend all week….and they have showed up EARLY each day and are participating 100%!!! They were even here in the snow yesterday, many showing up an hour before we started!!!
We are very proud of their commitment and participation to ensure that they are fully prepared for their internship and beyond. We are also very thankful to all of our business partners for their expertise and time who have truly had a profound effect on our kids.
In particular, I’d like to thank Ms. Dayl Walker from CBIA and the AEGT Advisory Board who helped to coordinate the YES Academy, we’d be lost without her!
