WINNERS ANNOUNCED: “MAY You Be the Biggest Loser” Attendance Challenge!

WINNERS ANNOUNCED: “MAY You Be the Biggest Loser” Attendance Challenge!

“MAY You Be the Biggest Loser” is a district-wide Attendance Challenge for all HPS schools and students; everyone competes to GAIN the LOWEST Chronic Absenteeism rates!  Schools will compete against each other to determine who can reduce their Chronic Absenteeism rate the most each week.

  • During the month of May, more than 25 schools reduced their CA rates and 13 schools reduced their rates by over 1%. The winning schools in brackets A-E were: New Visions, Classical Magnet School, Breakthrough Magnet School South, Parkville School, and Dwight Belizzi Dual Language School. Prizes were awarded to the winning schools in each bracket, including trips to the Connecticut Science Center next year.
  • In addition to the Biggest Loser challenge, HPS administrators and staff created the Superintendent’s Challenge, which allows high school students to suggest a challenge for the Superintendent to complete. The winners were Hartford Public High School, Classical Magnet School, Renzulli, West Middle, and Sanchez. The challenge for the Superintendent is a TikTok video; details to come!

Every Monday, or Tuesday for high schools, we sent out a district email with the rankings of where schools were after each week. Data was shared so you can see your decrease. (Data utilized will ONLY be May data, so we all started on the same page and on a clean slate.)

Prizes will be awarded to the winning schools (students, admin and teachers) in each bracket. This will be determined by the greatest decrease in Chronic Absenteeism over the 4 weeks.

BONUS!  THE SUPERINTENDENT’S CHALLENGE!

Schools in Brackets A and B are competing to name a challenge Superintendent Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez will complete (It will be a TikTok video!)  Schools in Brackets C-E will win a whole school prize.

In order to ensure student health and safety if a student is ill they should remain home.
