April Intersession: Joyful ELA Instruction & Enrichment for our 3rd & 8th Grade Students

Hartford Public Schools offers several opportunities for students to experience free extended learning beyond their normal school day and school year. Offerings include both academic and enrichment opportunities, and credit-recovery. In addition to grade-level academic support in reading, writing, math, science, and social-emotional learning, enrichment experiences include athletics, and music and art lessons.
April’s Intersession was a free, 4-day academic session for targeted English Language Arts (ELA) instruction by invitation only to 3rd and 8th grade students. It took place over April vacation week, Monday, 4/11 – Thursday, 4/14 and engaged over 135 students each day in learning and fun.
Breakfast and lunch were provided, and transportation was provided to Hartford residents in alignment with district transportation guidelines.

Registration is open now for Summer Learning Opportunities at Hartford Public Schools for students in grades K-12!  Click here to learn more and register today!  Breakfast, snack, and lunch provided – AND transportation for Hartford and suburban residents!

Our February Intersession was also a tremendous success with approximately 200 students participating!

In interviews, staff identified program areas of strengths including small class sizes, targeted instruction, strong collaboration and professional learning and strong organization. Areas of growth included, more targeted student selection, technology and more consistent communication about Intersession to families.
Preliminary data shows students made growth over the 3 Intersession days. The team is currently conducting a deeper analysis of the data by math standard to see the impact of Intersession in a detailed view.
