Bank of America Student Leaders Program Application Open for Juniors & Seniors

Student Leaders® was created in 2004 as part of Bank of America’s commitment to youth development and economic mobility. Through the Student Leaders® program, we connect community-minded high school juniors and seniors to employment, skills development and service. Preparing high-potential students with the leadership training and skills they need to be successful in the workplace is vital to our approach to responsible growth and helps build thriving communities.

  • Friday, January 28, 2022: Student application deadline, no exceptions

The Student Leaders® program provides students with:

  • An eight-week, paid summer internship with a local nonprofit organization selected by Bank of America
  • A week-long, all-expense paid Student Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. from July 25-30, 2022*
  • Financial wellness programs and education, including meeting with BOA’s Better Money Habits® champions
  • A dedicated mentor at Bank of America and the host organization of their internship
  • A professional network of peers throughout the United States

The goal of the Student Leaders® program is for students to:

  • Develop interpersonal and professional skills in preparation for the workforce and ultimately, to become the next generation of community leaders
  • Gain an understanding of how nonprofits create impact in the community
  • Gain firsthand insight to board and executive leadership responsibilities and management routines
  • Learn about civic leadership and understand the opportunities within their community to make a positive impact

What does the Student Leaders Summit in Washington, D.C. entail*?

  • Learn how equity and inclusivity play a role in effective leadership
  • Hear from a variety of speakers, including bank executives, government officials, community organizers, filmmakers and nonprofit leaders, who will engage them in opportunities to learn how to advocate for themselves and others and to recognize the role that we all play in effecting positive social change
  • Meet with member of Congress and the Senate on Capitol Hill
  • Volunteer with American Red Cross packing care kits for wounded soldiers
  • Go on interactive museum and monument tours, simulations and presentations

 Eligibility Requirements:

  • Current high school junior or senior in good standing at school
  • Hartford resident or student at a high school located in Hartford
  • Legally able to work in the United States
  • Available for the entire 8-week internship, including the trip to Washington D.C. from July 25-30, 2022*
  • Must complete all application requirements (see below)
  • Cannot be an immediate family member of a Bank of America employee

 Application Requirements:

  • Must submit online at www.bankofamerica.com/studentleaders with a resume (optional) and letter of recommendation (required).
  • Strong applications include demonstrated leadership within the community, an accomplishment as a result of community service, thoughtful and candid responses about lessons learned, barriers overcome and/or an inspirational story and a compelling answer to why you should be selected for the internship.

What is the process and timing?

  • Friday, January 28, 2022: Student application deadline, no exceptions
  • March/April 2022: Finalists will be interviewed in person
  • April 2022: The four (4) selected Student Leaders will be notified
  • June 2022: The eight-week internship will begin following the conclusion of the school year (exact date TBD)
  • July 25-30, 2022: Student leadership summit takes place in Washington, D.C.*
