Breakthrough Students Participating in 2-4-1 Top Self Sports

Breakthrough Magnet School South and Breakthrough Magnet School North are finding new ways to engage students outside of the classroom. Both schools are participating in the 2-4-1 Top Self Sports, a school-based physical literacy development program. The goal of the program is to teach behavioral, cognitive, and social skills through sports and activities.

The program, which includes sports like fencing and badminton, is offered before and after school. Each session ends with ‘shout outs’, which encourages students to recognize and thank their peers.

Breakthrough North and South used their Scaling Equity Innovation Grants (SEIG) for this program. SEIG, funded by $15 million in ESSER funding, allows each of the 39 Hartford Public Schools to fund a program or strategy that best fits the needs of their unique school community.
