Bulkeley High School Featured Artist – Shineyla Romero

Shineyla Romero

Meet Shineyla Romero, our first ever Bulkeley Featured Artist. Shineyla is a senior currently enrolled in AP Studio Art with Ms. Lesser. An all-around creative soul, she is comfortable in both visual art and creative writing. Drawing is her favorite medium, but when we asked her what work she’s most proud of she remarked, ” I’m proud of my woodburning I made of my Grandma. I love that you get to express yourself and create many things in art. ” As you can see from the photos here, Shineyla is a young lady with talent for more than one medium.

She’s been making art since she was very young, she said. “I would just sketch whatever came to mind. I like to focus on artwork that shows nature, and my family.” That childhood passion has evolved into an academic focus here at Bulkeley, where she has taken Painting, Advanced Painting, Art History, and AP 2D Design. “My favorite Art class is AP Studio Art 2D because you get to bring your thoughts to life. For example I’m doing 10 projects that are about me and everything is coming out beautifully.”

She’s still finalizing her college plans, but it’s clear that whatever her path, she’s going to go far. When asked what she’d tell younger students thinking about taking an art course she said, ” I would say to do it and don’t ever hesitate because it’s something you’re interested in.”

Congratulations, Shineyla!
