Burns Latino Studies Academy had their "Hats Off to Reading, Literacy Night" on Wednesday,March 30th. We hosted a  local celebrity reader Ana Alfaro in our auditorium. She read" The Cat in the Hat" to our students and their parents. The families also participated in Jeopardy activities, parent/child reading stations (tent and comfy seating area), took part in a make your own hat station, an estimation station, a write the room activity, fishing for rhymes,a photo booth and much more.

We were  lucky enough to have Mr. Julio Flores, a parent, chair of our SGC and volunteer read "The Lorax" to our students. Teachers read "Green Eggs and Ham"  and "One Fish , Two Fish…" in Spanish.

Our reading teacher and bilingual coach had a parent information station where hints about reading with your kids were shared as well as free books to all students who attended.

The evening culminated with Dr. Seuss cupcakes and healthy snacks of fruits and veggies  We also were able to have an awesome raffle with wonderful donated items. A good time was had by all. (Including the 27 staff volunteers and full administration team-one of which is also known as the Cat in the Hat!)
