Celebrating Pride Month 2021

Dear Families, Colleagues, Partners and Friends,

Celebrating Pride Month 2021

June is Pride Month and as your Superintendent, I would like to express the district’s support for all our LGBTQIA+ students, families, staff, and partners. This month is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions of LGBTQIA+ members of our community.

Hartford Public Schools believes in promoting equity in all our work. A priority of our new three-year plan is creating a welcoming culture and nurturing climate for everyone in our community. To realize that goal, we know we have to raise awareness about the challenges facing LGBTQIA+ individuals, including bullying, exclusion, and trauma.

As an anti-bias district, our staff and administrators will continue to engage in professional learning to build our capacity for confronting inequities. We affirm our commitment to creating safe learning environments for all members of our community. We believe in diversity, equity, and inclusion so all our students and staff can realize their full potential and succeed.

Please join me in celebrating Pride Month and the strength and resilience of the many individuals in our community who have fought for change and full equality.

In solidarity,

Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez
