Celebrating School Social Work Week 2021

Celebrating School Social Work Week 2021

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

The second week of March is School Social Work Week. On behalf of everyone at Hartford Public Schools, I would like to express my deep gratitude for our dedicated school social workers and all they do to support the success of our students and families.

School social workers contribute in many ways to the mission and vision of HPS, addressing the needs of the whole student. During this challenging year in particular, the contributions of our school social workers have never been more critical to the well-being of our beautiful and capable students, who have engaged in their learning while also coping with the pandemic and ongoing racial tensions in our society.

Our school social workers promote the social and emotional development of our youth so they can achieve in and beyond school. In partnership with teachers, staff, and administrators, school social workers foster a positive School Culture and Climate that ensures our students feel safe, valued, and connected. They also do the vital work of identifying resources, community services, and interventions for our students and their families.

Let’s take this opportunity to thank and celebrate our school social workers. To express your appreciation, send a special note to a school social worker or post a message of support on social media using the hashtags #BeaconofHope #SSWweek2021.

In appreciation,

Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez
Superintendent
