Clark School Receives Much Needed Supplies from Liberty Bank and Channel 3 WFSB SurPRIZE Squad

The Channel 3 and Liberty Bank SurPRIZE Squad headed back to school this week to help teachers and students displaced by a lengthy renovation project.

Educators from the John C. Clark School in Hartford said they’ve taken up residence at the WISH School while renovations continue and dangerous PCBs are removed.

Clark was forced to close last January after the toxic chemical was detected inside the building. Since then, the WISH School has taken in more than 200 of Clark’s students.

“Hopefully next year we'll be going home to Clark,” said Nancy Diaz, a school volunteer and grandmother. “I get emotional because, I love Clark.”

Students and staff are about a month into the school year and said they’ve been in desperate need of supplies.

The squad was tipped off about the need.

This year, Clark students have access to an art room at WISH. So the squad sought to supply them with some tools.

“I'm just overwhelmed right now,” said Annemarie Virgo, a parent. “You know I always see it on TV but I never thought that I would see it right here.”

Items provided by the squad included cleaning supplies like tissues and hand sanitizer as well as art supplies like markers, crayons, construction paper, pipe cleaners and scissors.

“These are all things that we definitely need and there's an abundance of it,” said Tayarisha Stone, Clark’s principal. “I can't wait for you to leave so I can go through the bags, because there's just so much stuff. And I can't wait to pass them out!”

“Look at all this! Beautiful,” Diaz aid. “Thank you so much.”
