Classical Magnet Staff & Students Team Up to Raise Awareness and Funds at their Empty Bowls Events
During the monthly professional development, Classical Magnet staff came together to participate in creating clay bowls for our annual Empty Bowls Event. Classical Magnet art students have been creating bowls to participate in this international effort to fight hunger for eight years. At this annual event, student’s bowls are available to be purchased for fifteen dollars. In addition to getting a custom made bowl, attendees also receive bread and soup that has been donated to the event from local restaurants. All proceeds from the event are donated to the Hartford branch of Loaves and Fishes.
This year, all of the Classical Magnet Staff had the opportunity to create bowls to be donated to this valuable cause. The art department and nine student volunteers worked with the staff to teach them basic hand building techniques and encourage staffs creative efforts. The bowls will be glazed at a later professional development in order to complete the process. Just like the students, staff will have to purchase their bowls at the event if they wish to keep them. Please join us at our Empty Bowls Event at Classical Magnet School on March 12, 2014 to see the end results of our talented students and staff and purchase a one of a kind ceramic bowl.
