Classical Magnet Students Participate in National History Day Competition
On March 5, 2016, Classical Magnet Students participated in the regional competition of the National History Day Competition at Capital Community college. This year’s theme is Exploration, Encounter and Exchange. The top 3 winners from their categories, such as websites, documentaries, papers, live performances and exhibits, automatically qualify for the state round held in April. Only the top 2 finishers in each category from the state round proceed to the national competition held on the University of Maryland Campus in June. Students can choose to work individually or in groups. Last year, Classical took 9 students to Maryland for the National Competition. While there, students have the opportunity to visit such sites as the National Archives, The Library of congress, The Smithsonian, The Newseum, The Capitol, and other famous historical memorials such as the Vietnam War Memorial, the Lincoln and Jefferson Memorials, and the Martin Luther King and FDR Memorials. Over 3,000 students compete at the national competition.
