Classical Magnet Wins Debate Tournament

 
On Saturday, January 10, Classical Magnet 11th graders, Shamar Mahon and T.J. Noel-Sullivan won first place (Varsity Division) at the Connecticut Debate Association High School Tournament held at Masuk High School. Shamar and T.J. were victorious in the public final round by a judges score of 4-1, going undefeated for the tournament. Shamar also won the 1st place trophy for overall individual speaker at the tournament while T.J. took home 2nd place in this category. The Connecticut Debate Association is the state’s major high school debate league, regularly attracting between 300-400 debaters for each tournament. This victory also qualified Shamar and T.J. for the State Championships to be held in late March.
 
The duo are also both part of the Hartford Public Schools City-wide Student Senate.
