College Readiness Forum “Ready for Life, Ready for College” Draws Big Crowd

On Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Parker Memorial Community and Recreation Center, the Office of Academics in partnership with the Office of K-12 Education and the Office of Early Literacy and Parent and Community Engagement hosted a College Readiness forum.  Dr. Carole Collins-Ayanlaja, Chief Academic Officer and Sonia Dinnall, Director of College and Career Readiness engaged parents in an impressive and interactive conversation about ACCESS, STANDARDS and RESOURCES for students.  Parents and students participated in fun, engaging activities that increased their knowledge of the new Common Core State Standards and student resources for college.  The Hartford Public Schools team was joined by guests from Central Connecticut State University, including Dr. Carl Lovitt, Provost & Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Joseph Paige, Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, Gladys Colon-Lawson, Department of Financial Aid, and Carlos Soler, Department of Admissions.  The parents and community representatives who attended shared overwhelmingly positive feedback and requested more opportunities for future conversations.
