Mission

Rawson STEAM School educates students to become resourceful, lifelong learners with emphasis on the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. Our students will demonstrate creativity and social responsibility as they meet the challenges of a diverse, changing world. Rawson’s sense of community and commitment to character, citizenship and diversity of thought will guarantee our mission.

Rawson STEAM School is committed to the acceptance of who each student is, the belief in the evolution of self, and engagement in the scientific and technological dialogue of our community, nation, and world. School Community

We are a community of lifelong learners. We value education and diversity. Our curriculum ensures grounding in basic skills, exposure to a wide variety of subject matter and teaching styles, and rigorous preparation for advanced work. We believe that informed and involved citizenship can be nurtured through the cultivation of a wide range of interests. We encourage students to participate in extracurricular activities working with community partners including Hartford Public Library.

We incorporate STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) inquiry-based instructional practices that prepare our students to compete academically and intellectually.

Special Features & Highlights

  • Our curriculum allows our students to gain knowledge, stimulate imagination and strengthen

their problem-solving and critical-thinking skills which are vital for success.

  • We offer after-school programming with The Village for Families & Children, along with activities

such as Young Manufacturers Program and the National Society of Black Engineers Junior Chapter.

  • We make the most of each child’s curiosity, giving him or her the skills needed to succeed.

ACCOLADES

We are proud of our efforts to close the achievement gap. Standard scores on SBAC continue to rise for our special populations.

CURRICULUM

We use research-based models aligned to the Common Core. Guided reading and math are our teaching methods. We emphasize rigor and engagement.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Hartford Performs, Field Trips, Robotics, and Village ACT Academy.

TECHNOLOGY

Teachers use SMART Boards to enhance lessons. Classrooms are equipped with laptops. We have two computer labs.

Our PARTNERSHIPS

  • With organizations like the Hartford Public Library, Hartford Performs, The Village, Blue Hills Civic Association, Girls for Technology, The Legacy Foundation of Hartford and United Way Readers help enhance student learning and success.
  • Through our partnership with the HARTFORD PUBLIC LIBRARY, we are a BOUNDLESS full-service branch with after-school hours and book circulation. Come visit our library
  • Rawson School uses STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) to excite and engage student learning.
