Global Responsibility through the Arts at Breakthrough Magnet South

On Friday, October 17th, Breakthrough's school community engaged in a day of activities that connected us to our purpose- we called it a day of Global Responsibility through the Arts.  Talented and energetic world percussionist, Tony Vacca partnered with Donovan Arthen, a percussionist in his own right, and New England Regional Director of  Peace Jam, in a program that connected students to Nobel Peace Laureates. Together with their special guests, Tony and Donovan inspired and guided our students in discussion, percussion and service!

Highlights included a morning opening concert featuring staff and 5th grade student performances, workshops Rhythm, Word and Service with Tony Vacca and Senegal tama master, Massamba Diop; Literacy Challenge project in which students hand crafted 900 book marks that will be donated to the Students Rebuild project, and Discussion with Donovan and his guests on topics that inspired purpose and service such as Peace Jam- 1 billion Acts of Peace, a Ceremony of Inspiration for Middle School Students, and an afternoon concert that featured students across grade levels that celebrated our shared understanding and commitment to fulfill our commitment to service as global citizens.
