Kitchen @ HPL Opening Brings Governor, Mayor & More


Last Wednesday's Kitchen @ Hartford Public Library opening brought Governor Dannel Malloy, Mayor Pedro Segarra and CT Department of Economic Development Commissioner Catherine Smith to our Downtown Branch to celebrate the innovative partnership between the Library and Billings Forge that resulted in this innovative cafe style restaurant. The Kitchen is open from 8:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday.

Banned Books Readout

Location: Mark Twain Branch


Hartford Public Library, the American Civil Liberties Union of Connecticut and the Law and Government Academy at the Hartford Public High School present a reading of banned and challenged books. Moderated by John Dankoshy of WNPR

People of Goodwill Concert

Location: Atrium, Downtown Library


People of Goodwill performs a variety of music styles including Jazz, Funk, Rock, Reggae, Rhythm & Blues, Latin, Brazilian and Afro-Cuban music that has evolved as a result of the Afrikan Diaspora.

STAGECRAFT: 50 Years of Design at Hartford Stage

Date: September 6 – 28, 2013

Location: ArtWalk, Downtown Library 


In celebration of Hartford Stage's 50th anniversary season, the Stagecraft exhibit consists of costumes, props and scenic elements from the company's extensive collection. STAGECRAFT: 50 Years of Design at Hartford Stage will open with a reception on Friday, September 6 at 6 p.m. at the Downtown Library (500 Main Street). Event is free and open to the public. The exhibit will run through Friday, September 27 and is available for viewing during the hours the Library is open.

The ArtWalk is currently seeking submissions for up to four(4) exhibitions to be mounted in 2014. Artists working in all media are encouraged to apply.

One Book One Hartford

Author Event: Saturday, November 23, at 2:00 p.m. 

Location: Center for Contemporary Culture, Downtown Library 


A Certain October, the poignant young adult story exploring sudden loss and the ensuing grieving process from a teen's perspective, is this year's One Book One Hartford featured selection.  Hartford's citywide book club, One Book One Hartford, begins at Hartford Public Library locations throughout the city on October 1, and culminates with an author event on Saturday, November 23, at 2:00 p.m. in the Center for Contemporary Culture at the Downtown Library, 500 Main Street.
