HPS Announces Increased Staff Incentives and Stipends

HPS Announces Increased Staff Incentives and Stipends

Hartford Public Schools knows that recruiting and retaining high-quality, dedicated teachers and staff is imperative to providing the best education for our young people. Therefore, we are pleased to announce a series of increased incentives and stipends for HPS employees.

Our staff has proven their commitment to helping students succeed, despite a myriad of challenges over the past two years. We have grown our attendance rates, improved literacy and math achievement, and provided more opportunities for students to thrive in college and career.  While we have made great strides toward our goals, there is still work to do. We know targeted investments of our recovery funds in our most valuable resource – our staff – are crucial to achieving those goals.

At the end of this academic year, each full-time employee will receive a $750 incentive, and each part-time employee will receive a $250 incentive. In an effort to increase retention, full- and part-time employees who return for the 2022-2023 school year will receive an additional, larger bonus.  Additionally, staff with a direct responsibility for academic or social-emotional will receive funds to personalize their student learning space. This will allow educators and staff to meet the individual needs of their students.

We are also investing in our academic and social-emotional recovery efforts. To ensure all students have high-quality education year-round, summer programming staff will see a significant increase in stipends over the previous year.

These investments will also target the staffing shortage that has impacted nearly every district in the state. By providing increased referral bonuses for all positions, we are empowering our current staff to recruit their future colleagues. TEAM Mentors and Cooperating Teachers will also receive significant stipend increases for growing the next generation of education leaders.

These incentives will be funded from either an anticipated surplus from the HPS General Fund or from ongoing COVID-19 grant funding (depending on the incentive type). These funds will allow HPS to remain competitive in the efforts to recruit the best employees for our beautiful and capable students. Please see the full list of incentives and stipends below:
