HPS Celebrates Opening of Annie Fisher Montessori Magnet School’s Erdkinder Program Facility at Auerfarm
On June 7, 2021, Hartford Public Schools and partners celebrated the official opening of the Annie Fisher Montessori Magnet School’s Erdkinder Program facility at Auerfarm. Supported by a state grant, the Erdkinder (which means “children of the Earth”) Program provides Annie Fisher Montessori Magnet School students in grades 7 and 8 with hands-on learning opportunities to solve real-world problems. Activities include working with livestock, growing and gathering food products, cooking, as well as humanities, mathematics, language, and microeconomics teaching and learning.
Remarks by Auerfarm 4-H Education Center Executive Director Erica Fearn, Annie Fisher Montessori Magnet School Principal Vivian Novo-Macdonald, and Hartford Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez were followed by a ribbon-cutting and tour of the new classroom, kitchen, and garden.
Today, I was happy to join @AFMontessori‘s students, families, and staff to celebrate the opening of the Erdkinder Program @auerfarm. 👨🏽🌾The new facility supports real-world learning for the Whole Student! Many thanks to all our state and local partners for their support. 🤗 👏🏽 pic.twitter.com/CwhD0pTNJr
