HPS Literacy Learning Teams Make Great Progress

The LLT has continued to be a powerful force and collaboratively tackled some very challenging problems of practice. Teams organized their work around: Coaching, Formative Assessment, and Content Literacy.

Here are some updates!

The Coaching Teams analyzed the role of coach across the schools and assisted the district in beginning to craft a common philosophy and coaching job description

The Formative Assessment Team put school-wide processes in place and prompted district level work regarding data teams

Where the Literacy gets the “Write” of Way Team created a website for world-wide use www.contentcrosswalk.weebly.com and presented at Empowered to Lead: Grow the Profession, Cultivating Collective Capacity conference sponsored by the CT Teacher of the Year Council and SERC

High School Cross-Content Team: Approximately 50 English and Humanities educators worked together with Peter Seidman from PCG on implementing, adapting, and developing Common Core aligned curriculum materials and dove into topics such as: text dependent questions, academic vocabulary, research process, student-engaged assessment and lesson design

On May 15, 2015, LLT had its last meeting of the 2015-2016 school year wherein the Learning Teams Shared and there was an Assessment Inventory Focus Group.

The Assessment Inventory Focus Group was a focus group to inform a district-wide assessment inventory. As you are the primary administrators, interpreters, and users of assessments it, is extremely important to us that your voice is heard and your input is provided at each stage of the process.

The Hartford Public Schools successfully obtained the CSDE Assessment Reduction Grant and utilized the funding to inventory current assessments and establish a sustainable system to support the evaluation of future assessments while increasing the knowledge and skills of stakeholders pertaining to the use of student data. On May 15, 2015, the LLT held its last meeting of the 2015-2016 school year wherein the literacy leaders informed the district-wide assessment inventory as the primary administrators, interpreters, and users of assessments in the district.
