ICYMI: DonorsChoose Partnership Helps HPS Teachers Fulfill Wish Lists
“Thank you for being so generous and helpful with basic necessities for our classroom! As we approach the middle of winter it’s important to have educational materials but also supportive materials for success such as warm gloves, tissues, snacks, and water bottles as well as brand new books and important books for our diverse students. We are very lucky to have your support. Thank you!”
That message is just one example of a recently funded project that an Hartford Public Schools teacher, Mrs. Matthews from Hartford Public High School, was able to celebrate thanks to the DonorsChoose platform and the generosity of The RISE Network and another donor.
In November, Hartford Public Schools (HPS) announced a new partnership with DonorsChoose, the national nonprofit charity that helps educators raise funds for classroom projects. The collaboration provided the district and teachers with a dedicated landing page just for HPS on the DonorsChoose website. Since then, teachers have been able to create projects to fund a variety of classroom needs, from books to art supplies and other tools that enhance the learning environment and support the success of our students.
In addition to the landing page, the partnership ensures that principals are notified each time a project is funded and receive early notification when there are new “match” funding opportunities. DonorsChoose also vets each request, ships the funded resources directly to the classroom, and provides thank yous and reporting to donors and school leaders.
With DonorsChoose, HPS teachers have been able to tap into a network of 4 million donors and raised $1.6 million for over 3,020 projects on the platform. That’s more than 100 additional projects in just two months!
