International Women’s Day

International Women’s Day

March 8, 2022

Dear Colleagues and Friends,

International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender equity. Marked annually on March 8th, International Women’s Day (IWD) commemorates women’s achievements, raises awareness about women’s equality and supports gender parity initiatives.

This year, the theme for International Women’s Day is #BreakTheBias. Whether deliberate or unconscious, bias makes it harder for women to move ahead. Knowing that bias exists isn’t enough – action is needed to level the playing field.

Hartford Public Schools is committed to honoring women’s achievements and actively creating an environment of equality where women can thrive. Students, teachers, and staff all benefit from gender parity at school. Today we lift up women and recommit to dismantling discrimination and bias in our Hartford community.

Sincerely,

Dr. Leslie Torres-Rodriguez
