Journalism & Media Magnet Academy Compete in Capital Workforce Partner’s Third Annual Career Skills Challenge Competition

On Wednesday, May 8, 2013, students from the Journalism & Media Magnet Academy competed in Capital Workforce Partner’s third annual Career Skills Challenge competition sponsored by Aetna Insurance Company.  The Career Skills Challenge is a fast moving competition in which Career Connections students trained by various service providers are given an opportunity to show and prove they can exhibit their Career Competency development skills. The competition is an opportunity for students to demonstrate they are ready for current employment and training opportunities. Career Connections students from the following schools participated in the competition: Journalism & Media Magnet Academy, Culinary Arts Academy, Law & Government Academy, Nursing Academy, High School Inc., and Pathways to Technology

The career skills challenge categories included: interviewing, tailored resume & cover letter, public speaking, personal qualities poetry, career jeopardy and dress for success.   Six senior Journalism & Media Magnet Academy students under the leadership and training from Workforce Development Specialists, Shanee Franks and Yaneeke Calderon, from Our Piece of the Pie, competed and prevailed in the following three categories (Jeopardy, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Dress for Success Fashion Show).
