Juan M. Hernandez

Juan M. Hernandez is currently the Director of the Myatt Center for Diversity and Inclusion at the University of New Haven. Before his work at the University of New Haven, he served as a Council Aide to former Council President Shawn T. Wooden and to current Councilwoman Glendowlyn L.H. Thames. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Juan attended public schools his entire life before college. He was awarded the prestigious Posse Foundation Leadership Scholarship to attend Trinity College in Hartford. For this Master’s final project, Juan conducted research on the obstacles Black and Latino men face when trying to get into and through college. Juan is currently the President of the Greater Hartford Young Democrats and a member of the Hartford Marathon Foundation’s Board of Directors.  He earned his B.A. in Political Science and History and his M.A. in Public Policy with a concentration in Education Policy from Trinity College and currently lives in the historic Colt Building with his fiancée, Rose.
