Mayor Segarra & Superintendent Kishimoto Visit Bulkeley Lower School as First Stop on Hartford Promise Tour

Dr. Christina M. Kishimoto and Mayor Pedro Segarra are spreading the good word to all Hartford Public Schools' 9th graders — the first class who can benefit from The Hartford Promise.  The Hartford Promise is a scholarship program suppored by community businesses, corporations and philanthropists that provides scholarship money for college to any Hartford graduate, beginning with the graduating class of 2016, who:

  • lives in Hartford
  • attends a Hartford Public School
  • earns a 3.0 grade-point-average or above.

This is extremely exciting news and the Mayor and Superintendent will be popping in to all the 9th grade classes to share the news and to lead the students through a recitation the Hartford Promise Pledge, below:

Hartford Promise Student Pledge
I am a college-bound student who aspires to enroll and graduate from a
college or university. I am dedicated to academic excellence. I
understand that this commitment determines the quality of my life in
the future.
I pledge to stay in school, work hard and prepare myself for the future. I
realize that post-secondary education is an important option for me. I
understand that in order to qualify for the Hartford Promise scholarship
following 12th grade, I must meet the following expectations:
• I am a resident of the City of Hartford
• I have been continuously enrolled in Hartford Public Schools since
at least 9th grade
• I will graduate from Hartford Public Schools with a cumulative 3.0
grade point average (GPA)
• I will meet the district’s attendance goals
I pledge that in all that I do:
I will aim high.
I will follow my dreams.
I will not lose sight of my goals.
I know if I aspire to it, I can achieve it! I commit to the Hartford Promise.
I am the Hartford Promise!
