MELS Glee Club Gaining Ground at Hartford Rock Cats’ Stadium Ground Breaking

The Glee Club at McDonough Expeditionary Learning School (MELS), a grades 6-8-neighborhood school, was recently asked to perform at the official groundbreaking ceremony of the new Hartford Rock Cats Stadium.

Accompanied by Glee Club Coordinator and MELS music teacher Jessie Ponzo, art teacher Alison Spector, and principal Bethany Sullivan, the group of 20 students performed a variety of songs including a special rendition of “Take Me Out To The Ball Game” for the Mayor, members of the Rock Cats, and other Hartford dignitaries.

MELS Glee Club has been gaining recognition and momentum this year performing not only at the Rock Cats’ Stadium Ground Breaking but also performing recently at a function at the Bushnell. Glee Club at MELS is offered as one of many electives for students who test on grade level for reading and/or math including App Development, Photography, and Debate Club.

The MELS Glee Club members continue to grow as performers and are excited about their future performances.
