Message from the Superintendent May 2014

Dear Hartford Public Schools Family,
As you know, after nine years in Hartford, my family and I are making the move to Gilbert, Arizona where I soon begin my new role as Superintendent of the Gilbert Public Schools. This is a significant move for us, as Mike and I have watched our daughter Maria grow up from a little girl to a teenager in the Hartford Public Schools!
I want to thank all of you for the wonderful farewell reception in April.  It was an honor to present the State of the Schools Award to Dudley Williams, Jr., and it was wonderful to have a chance to say goodbye to many of you.  We will see each other again, and please let me know if you ever get out to Arizona.
Hosting the Magnet Schools of America Conference in Hartford this week has been a pleasure and an inspiration. Communicating with our partners and friends in magnet education is an invaluable learning and sharing experience.
I want to extend a warm thank you to all of the teachers, staff, parents, students and central office team who believe that our Hartford children and youth deserve the very best education. With that vision, you have committed yourselves to working tirelessly toward redesigning the district into a portfolio model over the past nine years. We have made great strides, yet there is still much more to be accomplished. The work continues until every student in every neighborhood has access to a great school where all students succeed. I leave Hartford knowing that you will continue to ensure that Hartford students are college and career ready.
I would also like to thank all of our partners who have given generously of their time, expertise and resources to ensure that Hartford is the State Capital’s District of Excellence. You are an important part of the district’s success.  You have also been great champions of my leadership and I would like to personally thank you for that support.
To my Hartford students and families, I am so proud of you!  Stay laser focused on college, keep your voices strong and active, and make Hartford the great city it is meant to be. You are special and I will remember you and think of you often!
As I pass the baton of leadership to the next Superintendent on June 30, I also pass to her an outstanding, talented Hartford Public Schools team ready and able to continue this important work.  I wish you all great blessings and thank you for your friendship, support, and love.
Your Superintendent,
Dr. Christina M. DeJesus-Kishimoto
(and husband Michael and Maria, too!)
