MLK Day Celebration at Dr. Martin Luther King Social Justice Middle School
On Friday, January 13, 2023 students, teachers and staff gathered in the beautiful Dr. Martin Luther Campus auditorium to celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Principal Dr. Doreen Crawford welcomed the crowd and teacher Mr. Howard, MC’ed.
Performances and presentations included:
- Dream Skit (led by Ms. Brown)
- History of the “I Have a Dream Speech” (student, Alyssa)
- I HAVE A DREAM (MLK SPEECH) students, Jashawn and Shauna Kay
- Song A Train Is Coming (Mr. Acosta/Mr. Battle)
- MLK Jeopardy (Ms. Griffiths)
- Glory (Music Video by John Legend)
Teacher Ms. Griffiths led four student representatives (pictured above) from 6th, 7th and 8th grades in a rigorous Jeopardy-style competition about MLK. The crowd cheered and encouraged their team reps during this difficult competition, and though the scores were very close, 6th grader, R.J brought home first prize!
