Pathways Academy of Technology and Design's Global Studies Creates K.I.N.D. Project and Learns about School Life in Malawi.
Pathways Academy of Technology and Design, November 6, 2012—we, the Global Studies classes at Pathways Academy of Technology and Design are putting together a K.I.N.D project for our student body so that they may experience what the daily school life is for students in Malawi, Africa.
The acronym K.I.N.D stands for Kids In Need of Desks. In Malawi, classrooms of seventy to ninety students are forced to sit on the floor with no chairs or desks because chairs are a luxury very rarely experienced in Malawi. Our school has decided to reach out and create a project where, for a whole school day all classes will be held with students sitting on the floor with the option to purchase a desk or chair for three dollars. We have acquired a carpenter to help us build our very own prototype desk and chair, and all money collected will be donated to this organization in order to get desks and chairs for these students. The idea of this project is to change the outlook of the students at our school to see what these students go through everyday. We are hoping to change the lives of those who do not have a chair and a desk to sit at and teach Pathways students what it means to take things for granted because we don’t realize the little things we have that make a big difference.
These are the children in their classrooms in Malawi.
