The “Ready, Set, COLLEGE!” Art Contest took place from  October 1st through October 20th. K-12 students researched a college or university and created a dazzling display to represent all that their selected school has to offer. All entries will be displayed at the Capital Community College art galleries– right on Main Street (!) at #960,  starting on Oct. 27th! The grand prize: a fieldtrip to an Ivy League college for the winning team, plus a College Mascot Pizza Party at their schools for the 3 teams of runner-ups!  Visiting mascots include those from UConn, St. Joseph's, and UHart!

Our judges include artists, Ellen Bell, Andres Chaparro, Valerie Klokow and Paola Evangelista. The show opening will be Monday, November 3rd, 2014 at 5pm (Regular exhibition hours- 9-8) where refreshments will be served and the winners will be announced.

Ready, Set, College! is an art competition designed to inspire the students in Hartford schools to get excited and start thinking about college. The contest includes both middle and high school students who created these works either individually or in groups. The goal is for students to think about what they will do in college, what college they want to go to, what there major will be, what activities they will do on campus, and whatever else they think of. They were challenged to come up with a way to display all of this onto a trifold board and make it into a work of art!

Special thanks to Pedro Valentin, Capital Community College, Church & Main Delicatessen, and Blick Art Supplies.
