Review and Acceptance of 6/11 SGC Minutes
Accepted minutes are to be posted on website and main hallway bulletin board.
Montessori Magnet Planned for 215 students as a high goal. We enrolled 207. Carolyn has requested that 8 additional slots be opened from the waiting list.
TITLE 1 Funds for Parent Training:
Last year there were no Title 1 Funds for parent engagement. A Title 1 Representative attends meetings and brings back information to the body of the school. This year there the Title 1-parent engagement funds budgeted are $509.00. It costs between $250.00-$500.00 to have a parent trained for Hartford Parent University. The SGC agreed to put money aside$250.00 for this parent training. Before monies are released and individual is named, the SGC has asked if someone from Hartford Parent University to attend an SGC and explain the process of training a parent representative.
SCHOOL LOCATION STATUS:
Carolyn stressed to the SGC that Montessori Magnet is 1 school at 2 campuses. She wants parents to hear that message. The Board of Education voted to accept funds form the State to support a temporary location of transitional space. There is still a lot of discussion that needs to take place and a substantial amount of planning needs to continue.
Montessori Magnet will launch the COMPACT at Open House on September 22 so that families and review it and ask Guides any questions they may have. The COMPACT will be reviewed again after September 22nd.
SCHOOL ACCOUNTABILITY PLAN:
Hartford Public Schools released the 2014 Fact Sheet for Montessori Magnet at Moylan. Discussion took place regarding the level of absenteeism at the PreK3-PreK4 level. Our K-3 grade equivalent attendance is not a problem. Discussions about engaging parents in conversation about the importance of children coming to school every day need to continue. This is a mind-set that we need to instill in our school community. One of our SAP goals this year will be to have attendance between 94-96% and to decrease chronic absenteeism from 25% to 15%.
DRA (Developmental Reading Assessment):
The CT State Department of Education is no longer requiring districts to administer the DRA.
Kindergarten equivalent students will be assessed using DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) a phonetic Screener 3 times a year (September, January and May). In January & May, Kindergarten will take the NWEA MAP (Measure of Academic Progress) assessment that is a computer-based assessment
Students in first-third grade equivalent will be assessed using DIBELS and NWEA MAP three times a year, September, January and May.
Students in fourth grade equivalent will be assessed using NWEA MAP three times a year, September, January and May.
The goal of Montessori Magnet staff is to shrink the achievement gap by supporting those students who need additional support and having all children make 1 ½ growth.
Review current Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) data:
MyOn usage is assisting many students to make greater progress. Suggestion: Have a school dog to read to – builds student confidence in reading and teaches social responsibility for student achievement.
SCHOOL SPIRIT DAY:
The SGC will continue to discuss how to implement School Spirit Days into the school year.
The first MMCO meetings will be held on Wednesday, September 17 at the McDonough Campus and for those who might have missed it on Thursday, September 18 at the Moylan Campus.
Open house will be held on Monday, September 22nd from 5:30-7:30 at both the Moylan and McDonough Campuses.
The SGC agreed to meeting on the following dates:
*There is a possibility that another meeting will need to be added during the budget season.
Participate in ‘Meeting Close’ process: This closing process can be lead by rotation. (Due to time constrains, we did not conduct a “Meeting Closeâ€
