<NEW> Summer Reading and Learning Opportunities
There is now less than one month left in the 2022-2023 school year! We still have much work to do and many exciting events before the year ends, but it’s time to start thinking about how to make your child’s education a priority even during the summer months.
We are excited to announce the theme for our annual Summer Reading Challenge with the Hartford Public Library is: 3-2-1 Hartford Blast Off! The space-themed challenge encourages students of all ages to read 20 minutes a day. Beginning June 17, students who submit a log of their weekly reading will be entered to win prizes including tickets to a Yard Goats game and a chance to throw out the first pitch! Hartford Public Schools is also offering summer learning opportunities which include grade-level academic support in reading, writing, math, science, and social-emotional learning and enrichment experiences including athletics, and music and art lessons. Check your student’s eligibility and register now! The deadline to sign up is May 26.
<NEW> Celebrating Student Success
This week, I had the joy of seeing the very best of Hartford Public Schools’ students and staff. The week was packed with events celebrating achievement.
On Wednesday, I visited the Hartford Youth Art Renaissance exhibit at the Wadsworth Atheneum Museum of Art, where more than 130 pieces of original student artwork are displayed. I am in awe of the artistry and creativity that our students have. This is the 50th year of our partnership with the Wadsworth. If you have not seen the exhibit, it is open to the public until May 28. The Wadsworth is always free for Hartford residents!
On Thursday, I attended the annual Seal of Biliteracy event, honoring students who are proficient in two or more languages. This year, more than 160 of our beautiful and capable students earned the Seal, speaking a combined total of 12 languages. Three of our earners are trilingual. Congratulations to all of the students who are embracing the importance of being global citizens!
I’d also like to congratulate the hundreds of HPS students who competed in
the district-wide STEM Fair at the State Armory! I’m so impressed with the information the students presented – from genetic mutations to ecosystems. Students also showed off their robotics and Esport skills. Thank you to our dedicated STEM teachers who are providing our students with these incredible opportunities and experiences!

<NUEVO> Oportunidades de lectura y aprendizaje de verano
¡Queda menos de un mes para que termine al año escolar 2022-2023! Aún tenemos mucho trabajo por hacer y quedan muchos eventos emocionantes antes de que termine el año, pero es momento de empezar a pensar en cómo priorizar la educación de su hijo, incluso durante los meses de verano.
Nos emociona anunciar que el tema de nuestro Desafío anual de lectura de verano con la Biblioteca Pública de Hartford es: 3-2-1 ¡Hartford despega! El desafío temático espacial alienta a los estudiantes de todas las edades a leer 20 minutos diarios. A partir del 17 de junio, los estudiantes que presenten un registro de su lectura diaria participarán para ganar premios, entre ellos, ¡entradas para un juego de los Yard Goats y la oportunidad de hacer el primer lanzamiento! <NUEVO> Celebración del éxito estudiantil
Esta semana tuve el placer de ver lo mejor de los estudiantes y del personal de las Escuelas Públicas de Hartford. Fue una semana repleta de eventos para celebrar los logros.
El miércoles, visité la exposición Renacimiento Anual de Arte Juvenil de Hartford (Hartford Youth Art Renaissance) en el Museo de Arte Wadsworth Atheneum, donde se exhiben más de 130 obras de arte originales de los estudiantes. Admiro la habilidad artística y la creatividad que tienen nuestros estudiantes. Este año se cumplen 50 años de nuestra colaboración con el Wadsworth. Si no la ha visto, la exposición está abierta al público hasta el 28 de mayo. ¡El Wadsworth siempre es gratis para los residentes de Hartford!
El jueves asistí al evento anual Sello de Alfabetización Bilingüe (Seal of Biliteracy) que distingue a los estudiantes que dominan dos o más idiomas. Este año, más de 160 de nuestros bellos y capaces estudiantes ganaron el Sello, y ellos hablan en total una combinación de 12 idiomas. Tres de nuestros ganadores son trilingües. ¡Felicitaciones a todos los estudiantes que reconocen la importancia de ser ciudadanos internacionales!
¡También quiero felicitar a los cientos de estudiantes de las Escuelas Públicas de Hartford que compitieron en la Feria de ciencias, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas (STEM, por sus siglas en inglés) de todo el distrito realizada en la Armería Estatal (State Armory)! Me asombra la información que presentaron los estudiantes, desde mutaciones genéticas hasta ecosistemas. Los estudiantes también mostraron con orgullo sus habilidades en robótica y deportes electrónicos. ¡Gracias a nuestros dedicados maestros de ciencias, tecnología, ingeniería y matemáticas, que les ofrecen a nuestros estudiantes estas increíbles oportunidades y experiencias!
