The American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC) is a nonprofit organization whose membership includes legislators, businesses and foundations.   ALEC provides model legislation for state senators and representatives to utilize in submitting bills in their legislature. You may visit ALEC’s website at  Recently ALEC has come under criticism.  BusinessWeek wrote that "part of ALEC's mission is to present industry-backed legislation as grass-roots work." The New York Times wrote that "special interests effectively turn ALEC’s lawmaker members into stealth lobbyists.” ALEC was the subject of the September 29, 2012 edition of Moyers & Company hosted by Bill Moyers.
