The United Way Presents "Amy’s Story"

We never know when we might need a helping hand, or a refuge in times of crisis.  United Way of Central & Northeastern CT is there to ensure that we all have a safety net of services when we need them most.
United Way supported programs helps people in so many ways, and can change their lives forever. I am one of many people, women, and mothers that United Way funded programs have protected and supported. When my boys were quite young, violence against one of them by their father made our household dangerous and I was afraid and worried of what could happen to our family. That same night, a UW sponsored agency stepped in and provided us with a safe place to stay and the strength to stay positive. For many weeks, the counselors made us feel welcome, secure, and gave me the hope and support I so desperately needed. The Prudence Crandall Center allowed my family to be heard and to be brave; they provided a haven for normalcy and healing. Other agencies like Foodshare, Catholic Charities, and United Way 2-1-1, supported by United Way Community Investment dollars provided my family the services we needed to survive.  I am thankful for these services and grateful for the impact they've made on our lives. I know that as difficult as times were back then, I am stronger because of the United Way. I am proud to be a teacher and I hope to have an impact on my students' lives along the way, too.”
-Amy Couch, 6th grade teacher, ESM at Mary Hooker
