Tracy Kane Appointed as Hartford Public Schools Director of the Arts

I am very pleased to announce that Tracy Kane has been appointed as the Hartford Public Schools Director of the Arts. Tracy’s background experiences have prepared her well for this position. She has served as the Education Director at the Hartford Stage and has broad teaching experience in Hartford and elsewhere.

Tracy Kane’s career with Hartford Public Schools began at Hartford Magnet Trinity College Academy, where she taught theatre to middle and high school students before moving to Central Office as Teacher-in-Residence. From 2001-2011, she taught English and theatre at Farmington High School, and also directed and produced countless theatre productions. Prior to becoming a public school teacher, she held education positions at professional theatres including Director of Education at Hartford Stage, Associate Director of Education at Honolulu Theatre for Youth, and Education Coordinator at American Place Theatre in New York City.

In her various roles in public school and professional theatre settings, she has supported thousands of students in their pursuit of meaning, community, and personal expression through the arts. For teachers, she has conducted professional development workshops on a variety of arts and education topics at Hartford Public Schools, Farmington High School, Hartford Stage, and the University of Hawaii.

Her article, “Engaging the Outliers: One Theater Educator's Journey to Reach her Most Challenging Students through Choice, Rigor, and Empowerment” appeared last fall in The Reflexive Teaching Artist published by Intellect Books. She has led workshops at national and state conferences including AATE and Connecticut Alliance for Arts Education.

Her education includes a BA in Drama from Vassar College, an MA in Educational Theatre from New York University, and a Sixth-Year in Educational Leadership from Central Connecticut State University.

Tracy will be an incredible asset to us as we further our vision of excellence and equity for every child.

Welcome, Tracy!

Best,
