Weekly Update from the Superintendent – March 12, 2021
Dear Families,
Thank you for your ongoing commitment to your child’s education and for your partnership. One year ago, I announced that we would be closing our schools due to the COVID-19 pandemic. I am deeply appreciative of your commitment, strength, and resilience through this year of unprecedented change and uncertainty. We now have hope that we can finally crush this pandemic and also be inspired as we plan to bring all our students back to the best environment for them to learn and feel valued and connected, the classroom.
I’m writing this week with a few key updates and other important reminders.
<REMINDER> 10-12 In-person Students Will Attend Full Time Beginning Monday, March 15
(Remote-only 10-12 students will continue with remote for now)
Beginning on Monday, March 15, our in-person 10-12 students will begin attending schools five days per week. Benefits of returning our high school students full time now:
- Increased access to equitable academic and social-emotional support
- Increased socialization with caring adults and peers to improve well-being
- Returning full time before break will allow students to get used to their new schedules and finish the year strong
- Schools are considered to be safe environments
Our existing safety measures will continue to reduce the risk of spreading the virus in our schools. We will continue to consult local and state health officials and enforce all our COVID-19 health and safety protocols in our school buildings.
<REMINDER> Remote Only Learners: There is no change for remote-only students for now.
However, with the continued improvement in local health metrics and the vaccination of our staff, we are planning for the return of remote-only students to the classroom in the weeks ahead.
Last week, we emailed a Survey for Remote-Only Families to help us understand how many families have extenuating circumstances (health conditions with their child or in their household that would prevent them from returning to school this spring). If you have responded to the survey, thank you. If not, please follow the link below to complete the survey. You will need your child’s school ID, email, or lunch number. <UPDATED> More than 2,171 HPS Staff Received First Dose of COVID-19 Vaccine
Thursday, March 11, was the third and final day for mass vaccination clinics for HPS staff., A total of 2,171 of our educators and staff received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at Saint Francis Hospital last week. These successful vaccine clinics were the result of a partnership with Saint Francis Hospital. These mass vaccination clinics, along with our robust health and safety protocols, are a key step in returning our staff and students back to the environment where our students learn best, the classroom.
<UPDATED> HPS COVID-19 Cases, Positivity Rates, and Quarantines
The district’s current COVID positivity and quarantine data, and a dashboard displaying confirmed cases by school across the district, are updated daily and can be viewed on the district website.

Gracias por su compromiso continuo a la educación de su hijo(a) y por su colaboración. Hace un año, anuncié que estaríamos cerrando nuestras escuelas debido a la pandemia COVID-19. Estoy profundamente agradecida por su compromiso, fortaleza y su resiliencia a lo largo de este año de cambios e incertidumbre sin precedentes. Ahora tenemos esperanza de al fin poder terminar con esta pandemia y estar inspirarnos mientras planificamos para regresar nuestros(as) estudiantes al mejor ambiente para que ellos(as) aprendan y se sientan valorados(as) y conectados(as), el salón de clases.
Les escribo esta semana con unas novedades claves y otros recordatorios importantes.
<RECORDATORIO> Estudiantes presenciales de 10-12 ahora asistirán a tiempo completo comenzando el lunes, 15 de marzo (Los(as) estudiantes únicamente remotos de 10-12 continuarán remoto por ahora)
A partir del lunes, 15 de marzo, nuestros(as) estudiantes presenciales de 10-12 comenzarán a asistir a las escuelas cinco días a la semana (solo estudiantes de Capital Prep de grados 10-12 comenzarán asistiendo a tiempo completo el 8 de marzo).
Beneficios de regresar nuestros(as) estudiantes de escuela superior a tiempo completo ahora:
- Acceso aumentado a apoyo académico y socio-emocional equitativo
- Mayor socialización con adultos y compañeros(as) que se preocupan por ellos(as) para mejorar su bienestar
- Regresar a tiempo completo antes del receso permitirá que estudiantes se acostumbren a sus horarios y terminen el año con fuerza
- Las escuelas se consideran ambientes seguros
Nuestras medidas de seguridad existentes continuarán reduciendo el riesgo de propagar el virus en nuestras escuelas. Continuaremos consultando funcionarios locales y estatales de salud y aplicando nuestros protocolos de salud y seguridad en nuestros edificios escolares.
<RECORDATORIO> Aprendices únicamente remoto: No hay cambio para estudiantes unicamente remoto por ahora.
Sin embargo, con la mejora continua de métricas locales de salud y la vacunación de nuestro personal, estamos planificando para el regreso de nuestros(as) estudiantes únicamente remotos al salón de clases en las próximas semanas.

<ACTUALIZADO> Más de 2,171 miembros del personal de HPS recibió la primera dosis de la vacuna contra COVID-119
El jueves, 11 de marzo fue el tercer y último día de clínicas de vacunación en masas para personal de HPS. Un total de 2,171 de nuestros(as) educadores(as) y personal recibió su primera dosis de la vacuna contra el COVID-19 en el hospital Saint Francis la semana pasada. Estas clínicas de vacunación exitosas, junto a nuestros protocolos sólidos de salud y seguridad, son un paso clave en regresar nuestro personal y estudiantes al ambiente donde nuestros(as) estudiantes aprenden mejor, el salón de clases.

Los datos actuales de casos positivos de COVID-19 y de cuarentena del distrito y el tablero que muestra casos confirmados por escuelas a través del distrito, se actualizan diariamente y se pueden ver en la sitio web del distrito.
