Welcome to our New Director of Mathematics

 
 
I would like to introduce William A. Rice as the Director of Mathematics for Hartford Public Schools. William comes to us with 17 years of overall experience in education and 12 years of experience in educational leadership. William is certified in Mathematics and Chemistry; has a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from the University of Connecticut; a Master’s Degree from Sacred Heart University and is currently pursuing an Ed.M/Ed.D in Curriculum and Teaching at the Teachers College, Columbia University. William has served as a teacher of mathematics, a high school assistant principal, a principal of an elementary school and in the central office as a mathematics curriculum supervisor and a supervisor of principals. William has received training from SBAC and has served as a reviewer for SBAC mathematics items and has authored items for the SBAC mathematics assessment. William has worked with the State Department of Education on developing the SESS rubric to support mathematics instructional coaches and on developing model mathematics lessons to support effective CCSS implementation. William has extensive experience supporting instructional leadership in mathematics at all levels. William is focused on ensuring that all the necessary conditions for student success in mathematics are in place so that students are prepared to demonstrate their proficiency on the summative assessment and are prepared to utilize the “habits of mind” developed from their high quality mathematics experiences to achieve their goals for college and careers.
William began his new role in Hartford on September 8th.
