West Middle Community School 6th Grade Students Assist with Hurricane Relief

On Friday, November 3, 2017 6th grade students at Hartford’s West Middle School packed a cargo van with non- perishable foods, diapers, clothing and books to be transported down to Houston Texas.

Mrs. Moro’s 6th grade Social Studies class began studying hurricanes in September. They were disheartened by the effects of the hurricanes that had been all over the news and wanted to help. They approached Principal, Lynn Estey, with their idea and with her permission they went to work. They designed posters, sent flyers home to the entire student body, and packaged all of the donations we have received so far. St. Thomas the Apostle School in West Hartford heard what the students were doing and also contributed a large donation to these efforts.

These donation efforts were coordinated by parents, Mrs. Jessica Moro,  and Nicole Rodriguez, Director of the Volunteer Center. This Friday, Metashar B. Dillon, CEO of Kingdom International Economic Development Corporation will be on site at the school to receive the goods. Next week, these supplies will be transported directly to the victims in Houston, TX along with donations from New Haven, Bridgeport, and Darien, CT.
