Winners are Announced for the "Ready, Set, College!" Art Contest

As part of College & Career Awareness Month, in collaboration with the Superintendent of Schools and the Senior Executive Advisor for the Arts, Hartford Public Schools hosted its second annual  “Ready, Set, COLLEGE!” art contest.

High School Winner, Great Path at Manchester Community College

Teams of elementary, middle and high school Hartford Public Schools students researched a college or university and created dazzling display  to represent all that their selected school has to offer. The end was to get students thinking about college, discovering facts about college and getting engaged in college -readiness.

The children's voices rang loudly with their feelings about college through their artwork and writings on the boards and in the books.  Projects included images, facts, musings, banners, and all submissions were delightful and thoughtful.

The winners were students from the Eleanor B. Kennelly School who celebrated Trinity College.  Winners in the high school category were from Great Path Academy at Manchester Community College.

Winners are dubbed, “Artists in Residence” and have won all-expense-paid fieldtrips to Yale University!

Hartford Public Schools would like to extend special thanks to City Hall who hosted the judging ceremony and the display, as well as to our very special guest-judges, and Hartford-area artists: Ilana Harris-Babou, Andres Reyes and Deb Zimmerman Herz.

All entries are displayed in City Hall through November 2nd in the second floor atrium.  They are all moving examples of artwork and statements from our students, at times adorable, full of facts, and poignant.
