Wish Museum School Hosts Candy Land Shopping Experience

Wish Museum School Hosts Candy Land Shopping Experience

Over the past fifteen years, Monique Price-Taylor (above right) and Carolyn Anderson (above left,) a cosponsor from Killingworth, Connecticut, have provided 4,000 students the opportunity to give the gift of joy around the holidays to their families.  Together they organize an event called the Candy Land Shopping Experience which allows every student in a school to participate in shopping for new and or gently used items for their loved ones.

The students arrive with their list of 3 family members and volunteers help them “shop” and volunteers then wrap their gifts. At the end of their shopping experience, students  can choose a book for themselves and the remaining books are donated to the school.

In the past, the team has collaborated with the Hartford Boys & Girls Clubs.  You can read more here.

However, when event coordinator Monique Price-Taylor  left the Boys & Girls Club of Hartford to work within the school system, they started providing this opportunity to Hartford Public Schools students. Although Monique is not a HPS employee she continues to connect with the school system that was responsible for her foundation in education.

This year the event was held on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Wish School and every student in the school had the opportunity to participate. Volunteers were from the towns of Vernon and Killingworth, UConn, CCSU and Hartford Public Schools.
