Youth Organizations Come Together to Host “Hartford’s Got Talent” Showcase

In honor of Martin Luther King day, on Saturday, January 19th, RiseUP Leadership Development Program, Tap into Violence Youth Program, and CT Center for Nonviolence (CTCN) are coming together to present “Hartford’s Got Talent” Showcase at Weaver High School. The evening is meant to bring the Hartford community together as a stepping stone to fighting violence, improving education, and making Hartford the best place it possibly can be to live.

The show will begin with the unveiling of a MLK Nonviolence Mural, commissioned by CTCN and painted by University of Hartford’s Design Global Change class, which was inspired by the thoughts and voices of Hartford youth. The mural will be a permanent fixture at Weaver and will serve as an everyday reminder of the positive actions being taken to make the community a safer and better place for everyone to live.

The show will feature a variety of different acts from the youth around Hartford and will include dancing, singing, drumlines and much more. Words will be spoken by Matt Conway, CEO of RiseUP Leadership Development Program, and Floyd Johnson, Founder of Tap into Violence Youth Program, and Victoria Christgau, Founder/Executive Director of CTCN, about their programs. The team will emphasize the continued importance of the many families, friends, organizations, and leaders to come together and help bring Hartford back. It is going to take team work from the leaders in education, crime prevention, and the many neighborhoods to stop the violence, improve the education for our youth, and ensure the opportunity for success is available to everyone.

Please join us on January 19th for “Hartford’s Got Talent” Showcase. There will be a pre-show reception at 5:00PM that will include raffle items and food samples cooked by the talented Culinary Arts Academy students. The showcase will begin at 6:00PM with pre-sale tickets costing $5.00 and $10.00 at the door. If you have any questions please reach out to info@riseupldp.org or call Matt at 860-874-2114.
